Custody cases aren’t decided by who you are.
They’re decided by what’s written down.

The Custody Documentation Kit — what to track, how to track it so it holds up, and the five records mothers forget until it’s too late. From a mother who spent four years in family court.

What’s inside the kit

I.
The Communication Log method — the six elements that make a log credible in court, and the mistakes that get logs dismissed as “emotional.”
II.
The Exchange Record — how to track every pick-up and drop-off, including the ones that go fine, so a pattern reads as truth, not grudge.
III.
The Money Trail — the same-day receipt system for every expense you carry alone. Support disputes are won and lost on this file.
IV.
Your own Compliance Record — the file almost nobody keeps. Proof of every time you followed the order to the letter.
V.
The 5 records mothers forget — school and medical involvement, social media evidence, and the rest of the list that matters most when it’s too late to start.

From the kit — what a court-ready entry looks like

Tue 4 Mar, 6:47pm — text message He wrote: “I’m not doing Saturday. Figure it out.” Scheduled exchange: Sat 8 Mar, 10:00am — cancelled by him. Witness to my reply: none. Reply sent Wed 5 Mar, 7:02pm (24-hr rule): “Confirming you have cancelled Saturday’s exchange. [Child] will be ready at the next scheduled time. Please confirm.”

Boring beats devastating. The mother who reads as calm on paper is the mother the court believes.

Why this kit exists

I walked into my first custody hearing carrying a folder of feelings — no system, no timeline, no idea that family court runs on documented truth. It cost me ground I should never have lost, and it took four years in family court to learn what preparation actually looks like. I’m an ordained minister and a University of Toronto graduate with college training in social work, and I wrote everything down so the mother three weeks from her first hearing doesn’t pay the price I paid.
